Introduction to Tricia the Dog-Mom and History Major

My Introduction

My name is Tricia and I'm 24 years old.  I'm a senior at OU majoring in History. I hope to one day become a high school Social Studies teacher and dance team coach.  Below you'll find a few more things you may want to know about me!

I'm originally from San Antonio, Texas, but moved to Freeport, Illinois when I was about 5.  I technically lived in Illinois until I left for college at 17, but I spent summers with my grandparents back in Texas.  I'm an only child and when I left for college, my parents high-tailed it right back to Texas and are now settled in Lakeway, Texas, right outside Austin on Lake Travis.

I went to Northern Michigan University for 2.5 years before taking a little time off to live in Lakeway with my parents and then I transferred to OU.  At NMU I majored in Political Science and minored in Dance.  I was a competitive dancer for about 10 years and really miss dancing a ton.

I spend my time commuting back and forth from Enid to Norman because my fiance, Joe, is an instructor pilot in the T-6 Texan II at Vance Air Force Base.  We have one BEAUTIFUL dog, Savannah Mae.  Feel free to follow her on insta, she loves the attention! She is a Catahoula Leopard Dog/Lab/Bull Mastiff mix.  I could break down the percentages for you if you really wanted me to, because we are super extra and got her a puppy DNA test when we brought her home from the ESPCA at 7 weeks old in July 2018.

I will graduate with my B.A. in History in May, and later in the year we are scheduled to move to Abilene, Texas for Joe to pilot the B-1 Lancer, a bomber plane for the USAF.  He's super excited to be moving to a new plane and I'm super excited to be moving home to Texas.  Savannah Mae, at this point, is indifferent.  I'm sure she'll be more enthusiastic when we get there.

By the end of 2020, Joe and I will be married!  Our wedding date is set for December 19, 2020.  Our ceremony will take place at St. Paul Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado and our reception will follow at The Broadmoor which is also in Colorado Springs.  Feel free to fan-girl as much as I am over our venue with the pictures below! I'm a firm believer that if you don't love your venue then it isn't the right venue!

  1. Hi Tricia! It's so nice to meet you! I'm also a senior at OU, but I'm majoring in mechanical engineering. Like you, I also love dogs. My family has a total of eight dogs, all rescued strays that were abandoned in the nearby woods by our house. Can I just say that Savannah Mae is absolutely beautiful? She looks absolutely precious! Also, congratulations on your engagement and soon-to-be happy marriage! I wish you the best this semester and all your future endeavors!

  2. Hola Tricia! I absolutely adore your wedding venue, it is spectacular. I am a sucker for weddings, I always cry like a baby, so I completely understand your excitement. Also, that engagement picture with your fiance is beautiful. Savannah Mae is a gorgeous girl, but I was very surprised by the mixes of breeds you mentioned because she looks like a pure-breed Rhodesian Ridgeback. In any case, she is beautiful and looks like a very good girl. I hope you have a great last semester at OU and that you will have a great wedding. Looking forward to reading more from you!

  3. Hi Tricia! You have a very exciting year planned! I think it is so awesome and fun that you got a DNA test for your dog, I didn't even know that was a thing. She is a beautiful pup. Me and my friends went down to Austin last August and stayed in an Airbnb near Lake Travis and it was so much fun! I wish I could've gotten a minor in history, I love learning about it and it goes hand in hand with sociology. It's nice to meet you, I hope you have a great year with all the exciting things you and your family have planned!

  4. Hey Tricia!

My step-sister has been wedding planning for her wedding in May and it is so crazy to me how much time and effort goes into all of it! I am glad you found a beautiful venue and wish you both the best on your happy day!

I was also a competitive dancer.. it feels like ages ago. My mom says I started dancing in the womb, but I took classes since the age of 3. My career goals never aligned with my love for dance, so I quit upon my arrival to college. It is something I miss dearly, but I still choreograph dances in my head in the car or when I listen to music... I don't think that will ever stop.

Best of luck in your last semester!

  5. Yay for History at OU, Tricia! The OU History feed at Twitter is one of my favorite OU Twitter feeds in fact. And it's always nice to meet future teachers in this class; I'm a big believer in all the ways we can use the online space for education, and a lot of the teachers I get my ideas from are K-12 teachers who are trying all kinds of creative approaches in their classrooms.
Your dance experience sounds really exciting. Dance is a huge part of the cultural traditions of the world, with a lot of connections between dancing and storytelling and stories-through-dance. Maybe that is something you will want to learn about in this class!
And what wonderful wedding plans! December seems like a long way away but you know it will be here soon... I hope you all will have many great life adventures ahead. Colorado Springs is certainly a beautiful place to mark the start of your life together as husband and wife. (Plus adorable dog too!) ...... Congratulations!

  6. Hey Tricia!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I was really excited to see that your fiancee lives in Enid. That's where I'm originally from! My dad was a flight surgeon at Vance AFB for many years before he switched to private practice. I can tell you that I've made that same Enid-Norman trip what feels like a million times. (Who would've thought you can drive two hours up I-35 and zone out the entire time?) Congratulations again on your engagement! The venue looks amazing! Good luck with your time at OU!

You defintely have a busy year ahead of you! The venue is absolutely beautiful by the way! I completely agree with you by the way you have to absolutely love your venue for it to be the one! 8. Hey Tricia,

Congratulations on what is sure to be an eventful year! As someone who is also graduating and getting married this year, I know how exciting it is to check off so many life goals in such a short period of time. My fiancee and I actually visited the Broadmoor when we were in Colorado Springs for Spring Break last year, and it was absolutely beautiful! I have no doubt that you'll have a great time there. Also, your dog looks adorable and amazing.

Good luck with the rest of your last semester!

  9. Hey Tricia!

Congratulations on grading soon. I also LOVE your wedding venue, and I agree with you. I hope when I get married I can pick a gorgeous place like that. I bet you'll have a great time at your wedding! Also, Savannah Mae is adorable! I also rescued a dog recently. He's a mix of a dachshund, blue healer, and Jack Russell!

Good luck with all your future plans!

  10. Hi Tricia! So many exciting things are happening for you this year! Congratulations! Your puppy is just the cutest! I haven’t gotten my dogs DNA tested (yet) but I can definitely relate to wanting to do so. Your wedding venue is absolutely gorgeous! It sounds like you have many things going on at the moment. Best of luck to you this semester!

  11. Hi Tricia! Wow, competitive dancing for 10 tears? That's impressive. What made you stop? What made you decide to change from majoring in Political Science to History? Both are interesting and related subjects so the jump really isn't all that drastic. Is there a particular time in history that you prefer? You mentioned that you hope to coach a school dance team some day. Are those pretty common? I'm sure that sounds like a really dumb question but it's been a while since I've been in high school. Good luck with everything!

  12. Hi Tricia!

One of my good friends is also an instructor pilot at Vance Air Force base (at least he will be soon when he gets back from San Antonio). It sounds like you have moved around a decent amount. I have only lived in Edmond and Norman - so I cannot say the same. Congrats on finishing up your degree and getting married. I am a big golfer and have heard of the Broadmoor golf club - I know it is highly respected so I am sure your venue will be great!

  13. Hello Tricia,

Congratulations on graduating soon! How were you able to do competitive dance for 10 years. My feet are hurting just by hearing that. Also congrats on your engagement and soon wedding. The venue is so pretty and I love the outside of it. I wish you the best of luck to you and again congrats on your engagement.

  14. Hey Tricia!

Congratulations on the engagement! Your venue looks amazing and I'm sure the wedding will be fantastic. Also, your dog looks really cute! I have always been interested in knowing the exact percentages of my dog's breed sins he is a mix as well. I know he is American Eskimo/Spitz, but he may have something else in there too!

  15. Hi Tricia,

Congratulations on getting engaged and I hope your wedding is amazing! It sounds like you are at a very exciting part of your life and this is going to be a big year. Graduating from OU, getting married, and moving is all a big deal. I think it is so great that you got your dog a DNA test. I have two dogs that are my babies and sometimes I feel like I can be so extra with them so it is nice to see that other people also do things like that for their dogs. Savannah Mae is beautiful!!

  16. Hi Tricia,

Congrats on your engagement and hope you have a tremendous wedding! I myself am getting married in May of 2020 and I am extremely excited for what is to come in the next chapter of my fiancée and my life. Also I think it is very cool that you were a competitive dancer for so long. I have been doing competitive men's gymnastics for many years so I have known a little about the dancing community due to the close connection between the two! Looking forward to reading your stories throughout the semester!

  17. Hi Tricia! It was so nice reading your introduction and getting to know you. I absolutely love that you got your dog DNA tested, now I really want to test our two family dogs (Pepper and Luna) as both were rescues and are definitely mutts. Also, congrats on your upcoming wedding!! I am also getting married this year, in September. Of course, with all that is going on we are just praying everything will be calmed by then and we will be able to have our wedding like normal. I hope the same for you, good luck post-graduation, and in married life!
